Katya and Vasya, two young teachers, arrive in a small provincial town. They are not professional educators, but they love children, dream of spreading “reason, kindness, and eternity,” and hope to change the school system.
Reality, however, turns out to be far more complicated. Half of the students plan to leave for vocational schools after the 9th grade. They have little interest in creativity and attend school as if it were hard labor.
Will Katya and Vasya be able to keep their enthusiasm?
Will they find a way to connect with difficult teenagers?
And will they stay to teach for another year?
The film has been recognized at international film festivals and received the national “Laurel” award for Best Documentary Film (2020).
Other awards include:
Jury Special Mention — Krakow Film Festival Documentary Competition, 2020
Alexander Rastorguev Prize for protagonist Vasiliy Kharitonov — IFF Message to Man, 2020
Jury Special Mention — Golden Apricot Yerevan IFF, 2020
First Runner-up — Hong Kong International Documentary Festival (International Competition), 2020
