Doron Solomons
In this video work Solomons has created a patchwork quilt of national mourning, using segments of films taken from the archives of Memorial Day news broadcasts. The minute of silence is prolonged here to nine minutes, during which the camera focuses on the faces of citizens whom the siren "caught" in different areas of the country. It seems as if an entire range of emotions - sadness, grief, embarrassment and melancholy - are distilled in this moment of collective remembering orchestrated by the state.
