Servet Koçyiğit

Turkish artist Servet Koçyiğit's work is composed of 49 knit letters that spell out the sentence "Sometimes I check the fridge ten times to see if it is really closed." The letters, which were designed by the artist, were knit by two Turkish women. This work was first exhibited in 2005 at the Istanbul Biennale (the first version of the text was in Turkish). By choosing an intimate and confessional text, Koçyiğit has created an ironic paraphrase on the employment of texts in conceptual art, while enhancing the obsessive material quality that contributes to the verbal message.

Born in Kaman, Turkey, 1971; lives and works in Amsterdam and Istanbul
