Takashi Homma

Born in 1962 in Tokyo. He lives in Tokyo.

The work of Takashi Homma is located in the space between photography, which is his main means of artistic expression, and contemporary art, which provides the venues for his exhibitions. In the 1990s Homma worked with the i-D, the Purple and other magazines focused on contemporary youth culture. Not only was he influenced by this culture, he was able to capture the spirit of the decade in his work. It was then that his unique style emerged - his clear, direct, dispassionate and distanced gaze. The "Tokyo Suburbia" (1995-98) series, which brought Homma fame, shows empty landscapes on the outskirts of Tokyo and portraits of the children and teenagers who live there. They are shot on a large-format camera, in the spirit of Homma's early works.
