Contact Gonzo
The group was formed in Osaka in 2006.
They perform in various locations, including parks and streets, improvising moves that entail physical contact that sometimes gives the impression they are fighting. Their art practice also extends to photographs of these encounters taken from close range and videos of them shot from a fixed position some distance away and posted on YouTube. Inspired by gonzo journalism, which favoured subjectivity over objectivity, the members of the group attempt to unravel the ‘structure of the world' as they experience it through ‘gonzo' ‘contact'.
