Paper Stories
May 16, 2009 - May 24, 2010
Curator: Adi Shelach
This exhibition features works created out of paper or on paper from the ethnological and contemporary art collections of the Haifa Museums, alongside works on loan from other collections. The exhibition includes traditional paper cutouts from countries around the world - including China, Japan, Mexico and Holland - as well as prints, woodcuts and contemporary art works.
The exhibition examines the various qualities associated with paper, and its different uses in the context of art - as a form of decoration, a talisman and a ritual object; as a two-dimensional support for drawing, painting and printmaking; as a material explored in conceptual art works; and as a "bodily" and material presence in three-dimensional sculptures.
