Nir Evron
Nir Evron's work was filmed at the Seven Arches Hotel on Jerusalem's Mount of Olives. This hotel, which was built in the early 1960s with the encouragement of Jordan's royal family, was considered at the time to be one of the city's most prestigious establishments. Evron's camera lingers on various spaces within the formerly splendid interior, which has fallen into ruin. The aesthetic images compel viewers to become aware of their perception of the hotel as a seemingly decontextualized architectural shell, although it is in fact impossible to detach it form a given time and place. In this manner, the desolation that pervades the hotel - a symbol of hospitality - becomes a metaphor for the shattering of a great promise, and its transformation into a reality of estrangement and desperation.
